Solar Batteries

Solar Energy Storage

A solar battery allows you to store the solar energy you have generated during the day to be used at night or when you need it next. This is a great benefit to homes that use the majority of their electricity after hours.

Consider that in Victoria the minimum feed-in tariff is 12 cents. While you are likely paying 25 – 35 cents from your retailer. It makes sense to store your solar energy and use it at night when you need it.

FAQ

Have Questions?

How much are solar batteries in Australia?

You can expect to pay $5,000 for the smaller batteries through to $10,000 for the larger batteries.

How many solar batteries do I need?

It depends on how much energy you would like to store. A single battery such as the LG Chem and Trina ranges we install, can hold between 4.8kwh to 9.6kwh. If you want to store more than that, then you can look at a system that may include more than one battery.

Are solar batteries dangerous?

Solar batteries are perfectly safe if installed by an accredited installer and electrician. But if you’d like to read more, please download the ‘Energy Storage Report‘ by CSIRO.

Are solar batteries worth it?

The answer to that question will depend on your own energy consumption. For example, if you use the majority of your electricity at night then it may be worth the investment. If we look at a 4.8kwh battery costing $5,000 (excl installation) and you used that capacity every day of the year, you would be saving approx 1,752 kwh purchased from the power grid. If you were being charged $0.25 flat fee for those hours then you’ve saved $438 in one year – taking you a little over 11 years to make your money back.

How long will a solar battery last?

You can expect your solar battery to last between 10 to 20 years. Both the LG Chem and Trina PowerCube have 10 year warranties and the Trina has an expected 20 year lifeline.

Will solar batteries come down in price?

The market for Lithium-ion batteries (used for solar and electric vehicles) and therefore the costs are coming down as the industry scales. So we expect this to continue.
